San Francisco competition

I was in California taking part in a photography competition with a group of maybe 8 or so other people.

I’d hoped to capture a picture of the Golden Gate bridge but couldn’t see it while walking down the ‘main street’ of the city.

I asked some passerby where it was, mentioning I couldn’t see it where I expected it to be and they said it was because it was submerged these days at high tide, so you could only see it from dusk.

I met up with an Arabian looking guy who had an AK-47 slung over his shoulder and observed his process for taking photos.

His setup was that he’d go up to statues and other works of art, set up his camera on a tripod, taking photos in rapid succession as he fired a full magazine of ammunition into the artwork.

He’s then select a few of these hundreds of photos for his actual submission, focussing on muzzle flare, exaggerated facial expressions and shrapnel flying around.
